Amazing staff, beautiful traditional design

The staff were super helpful and kept our bags for a few hours which was much appreciated Positive: The room and bedding was a good size and comfortable. And a nice atmosphere in a 160 year old building that has been renovated Under floor heating made it cozy and toasty warm. Good facilities including a wooden bath tub Negative: Nothing

すごく楽しめました。対応は丁寧だし、調度品はひとつひとつがおしゃれで清潔感を感じました。 Positive: スタッフさんの対応がとてもよかったです。 Negative: エアコンの温度設定をしたがそれでも室温が暑かった。

Characterful place to stay in a quiet neighbourhood, with friendly staff Positive: Enso Machiya is a very characterful place to stay, with lots of lovely little touches to modernise a very historic house. It was cosy and comfy in our room, and we really enjoyed the wooden bath tub that was so fragrant when filled with hot water. The staff were extremely welcoming and more than happy to help and offer up information and advice, which really made our stay. Negative: Location-wise, whilst the neighbourhood has some good restaurants, cafes and shops nearby (including Horikawa Shopping Street), it is still quite a quiet area. Additionally, it is still about 10-15 minutes to walk to the nearest metro / bus stops that can conveniently take you into central Kyoto and the other main attractions.
